How to Connect Multiple Projects: Links, Project Chaining, Access Rules, and Missions

How to Connect Multiple Projects: Links, Project Chaining, Access Rules, and Missions

Background

A campaign often needs more than one project: complete a quiz and then enter a draw, let players choose a language from the cover, or present several activities through a loyalty card or mission page.

OOOPEN Lab does not place several quiz modules inside one project. Build each project separately, then connect them with a button or mission. The methods differ in player experience, cross-project data, ordering, and point management.

MethodUpgrade required?Player experienceData available afterward
External-link buttonNo add-on; not available on the trial plan and requires a qualifying planOpens the URL you provideResponse data stays separate and cannot identify the same player across projects by this link alone
Link Another ProjectRequires the corresponding advanced featureOpens a selected OOOPEN Lab projectThe linked project records source sequence fields that can connect the two response records
Link Another Project plus participation requirementSame advanced featureBlocks entry until the prerequisite project is completedPreserves the source relationship and enforces the order
Loyalty Card or Mission Event Page missionsRequires an entry project using one of those modulesPlayers open projects from a mission list and return to collect progressThe entry project records mission completion and points

Before you start

Choose based on the real requirement:

  • Need only navigation? Use an external link.
  • Need to associate response records across two projects? Use Link Another Project.
  • Need to enforce completion order? Add a participation requirement.
  • Need three or more activities, points, or a progress hub? Use missions.

Method A: external-link button

1. Copy the destination URL

Publish or preview the destination project and copy the exact participant URL. Decide whether the destination should open in the same tab or a new tab.

2. Configure the result-page button

Add or select an external-link button on the result page and paste the destination into its link field.

This method passes no special OOOPEN Lab relationship. The two projects' response records remain independent.

Method B: Link Another Project

1. Enable the block

Open the result page's block controls and enable Link Another Project.

2. Select the project and opening mode

Choose the destination project and whether it opens in a new tab or popup.

3. Place the button deliberately

Decide which result pages should offer the next project. Do not assume that every result needs the same destination.

4. Verify the response relationship

Complete the first project, continue through its linked button, and complete the destination. Check both projects' response-management views and exports. The destination record includes source sequence fields used to associate it with the originating response.

Add a participation requirement

On the destination project, enable the requirement to complete a specified project first and choose the prerequisite project.

Test both paths: direct entry without the prerequisite must be blocked, while entry after a valid completion must continue.

Method C: connect three or more projects with missions

  1. Choose a Loyalty Card or Mission Event Page as the entry point and write the mission list first.
  2. Open mission management and add each mission.

  1. Bind an existing eligible project or create the required project first.
  2. Set the mission title, instructions, point value, and manual or scheduled availability.
  3. Tell players how to return to the entry project after completion.
  4. Test the whole route: login, launch mission, complete the bound project, return, refresh progress, and confirm points.

Mission binding lists only eligible projects. If a target is missing, check ownership, module eligibility, and publication state rather than pasting an unrelated URL.

Identify players before connecting the flow

If cross-project identity matters, design the login approach before launch. A link by itself does not turn anonymous records into one member profile. Test sign-in, return visits, and exports using the same identity path that participants will use.

FAQ

Why can't I find Link Another Project? Check whether the required advanced feature is enabled for the account and project.

Should I use a new tab or popup? Choose the mode that fits the environment, then test it in the actual mobile browser. Popup restrictions can vary.

Can I replace an external link with project chaining later? Yes, but test again: the data relationship begins only after the chained flow is configured and used.

Will a player who reopens the destination later keep the same source relationship? Do not assume a new direct visit reproduces the original handoff. Validate the exact return path required by your campaign.

Why did mission points not update immediately? Confirm the bound project was completed through the intended mission flow, return to the entry project, and refresh the participant state.

For larger flows, continue with How to use the Loyalty Card module or How to use the Mission Event Page module.
